Jim Fielder,
Currently reading and discussing Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God by Tim Keller
Christians are taught in their churches and schools that prayer is the most powerful way to experience God. But few receive instruction or guidance in how to make prayer genuinely meaningful. In Prayer, renowned pastor Timothy Keller delves into the many facets of this everyday act.
With his trademark insights and energy, Keller offers biblical guidance as well as specific prayers for certain situations, such as dealing with grief, loss, love, and forgiveness. He discusses ways to make prayers more personal and powerful, and how to establish a practice of prayer that works for each reader.
Dr. Keller’s previous books have sold more than one million copies. His Redeemer Presbyterian Church is not only a major presence in his home base of New York, it has also helped to launch more than two hundred fifty other churches in forty-eight cities around the world. His teachings have already helped millions, the majority of whom pray regularly. And with Prayer, he’ll show them how to find a deeper connection with God.

Tuesday, August 16
Missionary Share: Jeff Swank, LIFE in Messiah
Leader: Steve Williamson
Time: 6pm – 7:30pm
First Baptist Church: 733 Cross Street, New Braunfels, TX US 78130
All are welcome to come hear about the ministry of Jeff Swank with LIFE in Messiah.
He has an incredible God-story that you will not want to miss!
A little bit about Jeff....
Jeff’s life was radically altered in 1987. This is when, “God got my attention.” A near-fatal cerebral hematoma forever changed his life. After a life flight helicopter, emergency brain surgery, and six months he was discharged with a paralyzed left side and partial blindness in both eyes. He eventually regained partial use of his left leg allowing him to walk.
His future was now unknown and appeared pretty bleak. God used the uncertainty in Jeff’s life and the faithful witness of Jeff’s Christian employer to lead him into a relationship with Jesus. “My life again changed forever after coming to saving faith in Jesus as my Messiah,” says Jeff. Despite his physical handicaps, Jeff’s radical transformation drove him to become active in a local church. A few short years later he accepted God’s call to full-time Jewish missions.
Jeff’s wife, Esther, is a Dutch citizen. They live in the Netherlands with their two sons. Jeff is active in ministry to the Dutch Jewish community. He also takes two extended ministry trips a year, serving in Israel and Brooklyn, New York – the two most heavily populated Jewish areas of the world. “My desire is to reach the lost sheep of Israel with the lifesaving gospel of their Messiah Jesus,” says Jeff.
Jeff’s ministry includes mentoring, teaching Bible studies, street evangelism, campaigns, and teaching. Recently he added a writing a daily devotional to his ministry (available by request). He loves to speak in churches to “encourage and share the ministry I am so passionate about.”
Jeff loves to share God’s heart for the Jewish people. His favorite speaking topics are:
- The Call for Jewish evangelism
- Reaching your Jewish friends and neighbors
- “My power is made perfect in weakness”
- The Messiah in the Jewish feasts
- “Staying in your comfort zone to reach the lost”
Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His son’s name? Surely you know! Psalm 30:4

We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth.
John 1:45
In the Old Testament, God spoke to his people through prophets―men specially called to speak God’s Word to his people. The New Testament makes it clear that such prophets, whether chastising or comforting, testified to Israel’s final redemption and ultimate hope: Jesus the Messiah.
Over ten weeks of guided personal Bible study, relevant teaching, and group discussion, Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie will help you see the person and work of Christ in:
- Hosea's willingness to redeem his unfaithful bride from slavery
- Isaiah's divine King and suffering Servant, who will be punished for his people
- Daniel's stone, not hewn by human hands, that will crush every human kingdom
- Ezekiel’s vision of a city where we will enjoy Jesus’s presence forever
Gain a fresh perspective on the message of the Old Testament prophets, a broader understanding of Jesus as the fulfillment of Scripture, and much more when you join Nancy on this incredible journey to see Jesus in the Old Testament!
