Women of FIRST

Every woman yearns for friends who will walk with her through life's joys and sorrows. Women of FIRST is designed for women of all ages to know that they are uniquely gifted by God. It is our desire for women to find a place to study the Word of God and equip them to use the gifts that God has given them.

For more information about Women of FIRST, please contact Coordinator April Walley, or call the church office at 830-625-9124.

    Merritt Johnston
Merritt has been serving in full-time ministry since college, when she co-founded a ministry for young women called SAGE Ministries. She has also served on staff at several churches, including four years as the Director of Women's Ministries at Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall, TX, one of the 100 largest churches in America. In addition to her ministry within the local church and non-profit sector, Merritt has also served for nine years as a hospital chaplain at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center. Passionate about global discipleship, Merritt recently joined the staff of the Baptist World Alliance--an international ministry in 125 countries and territories. She is an education junkie who has been in some form of school most of her life, the latest being the completion of a Master of Divinity from Grace School of Theology in May 2018. Merritt and her husband, Jeremy, make their home at the Maker's Acre in Brenham, TX, where they are currently raising three rambunctious children named Josaih, Silas, and Jubilee.

Mom Set Free
by Jeannie Cunnion

September 17 - October 29
Tuesday mornings from 9:15-10:15 AM
CLC 124
$10, pay online with registration. Books will be provided at the first session.
Facilitated by Hillary Foytik

Good news for moms who are tired of trying to be good enough.

As moms, we're under constant pressure. We have to get it right in all areas of life - work, home, family, and faith - because our children's futures hinge on our ability to perfectly orchestrate the present. But those impossible standards leave us oscillating between worry, fear, anger, and shame. They threaten to steal all the wonder from parenting, life, and our personal relationship with God.

In this 7-session study, discover how the gospel message can empower you to parent in the freedom of God's sovereignty, so that you can breathe deeper, walk lighter, and enjoy your children - and the parenting journey - more than ever.

Discover the redemptive side to Job's story of suffering. Joy is the constant companion of the woman who trusts in the Lord. And while you can find it in friends, family, and circumstances, unfailing, persistent joy will only ever overflow from your relationship with Jesus. Just ask Job, the man from Uz who clung to God's goodness while all his worldly joys were stripped away.

Dress a Girl Around the World

Sewing Event
Saturday, September 28
9:00am - Noon
AMC 120

The Women of FIRST invite you to make pillowcase-type dresses for orphans for the Dress a Girl Around the World ministry. We schedule sewing days periodically throughout the year. You can come learn how to make a dress, or come enjoy fellowship and share your experience if you already know how to make them. We also have donated fabric available for you to use if you'd like. Download instructions here if you'd like to keep sewing at home throughout the year. We will be sending all of our dresses twice a year to headquarters for shipment around the world. If you have dresses you would like to include in the shipment, we would be happy to collect them in our church office. We can add the Dress a Girl labels to your dresses for you. For more information, please contact Carolyn Daves at rcdaves@gvtc.com.
